Thursday, 16 May 2013 from 10:00 to 16:00 (BST), in Sheffield.

A day of inspiration, networking, sharing good practice and support for anyone involved in community based catering.

Morning session

Session 1 Case study presentations of several different examples of community cafes, showing the different models and approaches.

Session 2 A presentation by the Scottish Community Cafes Network entitled

“Catering for change: community cafes at the heart of tackling health inequalities and promoting social justice – a Scottish perspective”

Session 3 A workshop facilitated by experienced community cafe manager Alison Shockledge around the nuts and bolts of setting up and running a community cafe

The content of this session will be shaped in part by your needs, but could include:

  • The catering basics: menu design, kitchen operations & layout, service and selling
  • Menu pricing and margins
  • Maximising opportunities with other catering products & services

Lunch will be provided, (there will be an opportunity to let us know of any dietary requirements on the booking form).

Afternoon session
Open space Workshop This session will be an interative workshop where we will split up and explore issues of particular interest to those attending, share ideas and best practice.

Who should attend?
Managers and volunteers from community cafés, and anyone planning to set up a community café.

Who are we?

The Nutrition Team are part of Nottingham CityCare Partnership’s Nutrition and Dietetic Service. We are registered nutritionists, dietitians, community food workers and a community liaison worker. Our aim is to support the local population to eat better and lead healthier lives, reducing health inequalities in Nottingham

 

Why us?

We have been delivering training across the city since 2009, benefiting hundreds of workers who are now promoting healthy eating and good nutrition as part of their work

 

Our training is provided free of charge to people working in the city of Nottingham.

 

We deliver a wide range of practical and interactive programmes to promote good nutrition to the public

Amazing opportunity for your volunteers!! Three day residential workshop in Communuity Cafes

[This is great chance for those who have the time to go on an intensive course in developing community cafes.  It only costs £20 per person and that covers full board and food for the three days.  if you are interested please let me know because i am receiving more info about the course that i can forward onto you.]

Developing Community Cafés course  6-8 June 2011

 This course is for any group that have just set up a community cafe, or those that have been running one for some time and want to look at it afresh.

 It will help you consider ways that you can make your cafe vibrant, viable and sustainable.

 The course will cover:

• Budgets – including menu budgeting

• Looking at your customer base and meeting their expectations

• Developing healthy eating strategies

• Considering ways to diversify

• Marketing and promotion

Spaces on both courses are £20.00 per person to all volunteers in the UK.  This cost includes full and extensive training, accommodation during the course, VAT, all meals and refreshments.
