The fundraiser event on the 28th April went brilliantly! A big thank you to all involved and those who came along to join in the fun!We had a fantastic buffet made by Joel, 3 bands and a speech artist, an art exhibition, donated art work to raise money and lots of great stalls including Empleo offering a CV surgery, ridewise with bikability information, Active8 doing art and crafts and helping us out with the PA system and setting up, Sue B from the Crocus board making jewellery and Graham offering leaflets and advice on community gardening, as well as pulp friction who bought along their bike that makes smoothies!

We also had the help of regular volunteers and some new ones who made the event run smoothly and worked brilliantly as a team.We raised £850 so thank you for all your generous donations, this will go towards Crocus’ vibrant and exciting future ahead as well as helping out with some of the debt from the past.We have had our first ‘suspended’ meal! We are taking on this great initiative that is spreading over the world from Italy see the link: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-22267613So if you are ever in Crocus and want to give a drink or meal let us know, or if you feel you are in need of a suspended meal or coffee come and ask what we have got. In the future we are hoping to have a board showing how many are available.Lots of people have been saying some lovely things about Crocus Café and the launch – if you have the time please do write recommendations on our Facebook, twitter or trip advisor!

What’s Real Lives up to?

Last month our contribution to the centre for welfare reform was published please see the link to read more… http://www.centreforwelfarereform.org/library/by-az/peers-and-allies-for-living.html

We have changed the price of our managed budgets – they are now £50 set up fee and £3 per invoice, other than real lives invoices– as they are free.We are developing our link with the Nottingham Recovery College and will be doing some more teaching next academic year and hopefully holding some on site. Our course should be around setting up your own group which will tie in nicely with our café venue and communications board.

Volunteer experience

We are now running Crocus 7 days a week. We are seeking volunteers to help us mon, tues, weds 10.30 – 3.30. As a volunteer you only have to do 2 hours a shift in a week any more is up to you. We will be delivering food hygiene training in the future and you will be supported to develop your work skills.

If you are interested in volunteering please get in touch and we will add you to the volunteer rota.

Networking

We want to start to develop a peer support time banking network. This has been done in Doncaster and documented in Peer Power by Simon Duffy a paper you will find in the resource section of our website. Interested parties would be supported to meet up and develop a resource with skills and contact details listed that would be made available to the group, by volunteering some of your time you can then utilise time from others in a form that is useful to you. Ideas and Interest Welcome! We now have a communications board at the café for people to advertise for help, support or interest in a group or meeting.

News from the Underground (Beth Marriott)

Dear undergrounders

Just wanted to tell you a little about what I have recently been up to. As you know I’ve been running the kiosk since June in the cold wind and rain and after discussions with the land lord I decided to extend. The husband and some friends helped to redevelop a shipping container which is in the last stages of be transformed into a beautiful plush space where by which people can come and eat my food from. I will also be open Friday and Saturday evenings.

In celebration of this I am holding some Guinea Pig testing evenings to test out new menus these are invite only (count this as your invite), and will run from 7.30 on the 3rd,4th,5th,10th,11th,12th of april and the 7th from 10 till 2pm. As all underground events the menu will hold a veggie/ vegan and a meat option and they will be bring your own booze. On Saturday the 6th I will be having an opening day for any one to attend from 2pm where I will be serving some food samples and you can have a look around the new container.

As I said we are still currently fine tuning the interior and the furniture will change but if your around Sherwood and fancy a cuppa the container is warm, almost finished and interesting!!!!

To book give me an email back or a bell on 07514625697 or just drop into the kiosk.

See you soon
