Thursday, 16 May 2013 from 10:00 to 16:00 (BST), in Sheffield.
A day of inspiration, networking, sharing good practice and support for anyone involved in community based catering.
Morning session
Session 1 Case study presentations of several different examples of community cafes, showing the different models and approaches.
Session 2 A presentation by the Scottish Community Cafes Network entitled
“Catering for change: community cafes at the heart of tackling health inequalities and promoting social justice – a Scottish perspective”
Session 3 A workshop facilitated by experienced community cafe manager Alison Shockledge around the nuts and bolts of setting up and running a community cafe
The content of this session will be shaped in part by your needs, but could include:
- The catering basics: menu design, kitchen operations & layout, service and selling
- Menu pricing and margins
- Maximising opportunities with other catering products & services
Lunch will be provided, (there will be an opportunity to let us know of any dietary requirements on the booking form).
Afternoon session
Open space Workshop This session will be an interative workshop where we will split up and explore issues of particular interest to those attending, share ideas and best practice.

Managers and volunteers from community cafés, and anyone planning to set up a community café.
